On Saturday night, Russian Defence Minister Sergei Shoigu announced that Zircon hypersonic missiles are in service. He also stated that mass production is imminent. The 3M22 Zircon is a scramjet-powered hypersonic cruise missile. It is capable of speeds of up to Mach 9 and a reported range of 1,000 kilometers. The Greek government intends to extend its wall along the border with Turkey by 80 kilometers. The plans were recently reaffirmed by Notis Mitarakis, the minister of migration. The existing border wall is 40 kilometers long and stands aside the Maritsa river, which flows through most of the Greece-Turkey border. The majority of it was built recently, after endorsements by the European Union. Once complete the wall will stretch roughly 120 kilometers, covering over half of the border. MKE’s 76mm naval cannon has passed sea trials. The project was initiated in 2020 due to concerns of extended delivery times and high costs associated with Leonardo Oto 76/62 cannons. The sea trials were conducted on board TCG Beykoz, a Burak-class corvette. It is expected that future Turkish vessels which require a 76mm cannon will use MKE’s product. This would include the Istanbul-class frigates, one of which has been launched. Vessels requiring replacements for worn Oto Melera 76mm guns will likely receive MKE’s alternative. The United States Department of State has approved a $74 million deal with Brazil on the sale of FGM-148 Javelin missiles. The Brazilian government is interested in buying 222 Javelin missiles (with disposable launch tubes) along with 33 reusable Javelin Command Launch Units (CLU). So far the Javelin is in use in 22 militaries, including Ukraine, which has used it effectively against Russian armor. Along with Brazil, Albania, Latvia and Thailand are also waiting to receive their first orders. Kh-22 missiles fired by Russian Tu-22M3 bombers have burned down hundreds of square meters of property in Odesa. Four people sustained light injuries. According to telegram channel @our_odessa the attack destroyed a coastal recreation center. A similar attack occurred three weeks prior, after a grain export deal was signed. Both the Kh-22 and Tupolev Tu-22M are considered obsolete. The Kh-22 boasts impressive range (600km), speed and payload. Though its poor accuracy limits is effectiveness. Turkish warplanes have bombarded Cariqli and areas north of Ayn al-Arab, resulting in the deaths of at least 22 Assad-affiliated militias. Images show large plumes of smoke caused caused by the airstrikes. It is yet unknown if the it is in response to an attack, or if signifies the beginning of a new operation. Due to concerns about potential US sanctions, the Philippines shelved a $227 million deal to buy 16 Mi-17 helicopters. The Department of National Defense formed a committee to formally withdraw from the agreement. On Monday, Manila’s ambassador to Washington officially announced the cancellation of the deal. The Philippines is likely to procure American made Chinook heavy-lift helicopters instead. The Turkish Navy will soon have its very first aircraft carrier. The TCG Anadolu has been on sea trials for the past several months and is expected to enter the inventory soon. The TCG Anadolu is a modified derivative of Navantia’s Juan Carlos Class. Built by Sedef Shipyard, most of it is domestically made. It features Havelsan’s GENESIS-ADVENT CMS, as well as many sub-systems from Aselsan. Its length is 232 meters, with a beam of 32 meters.
